On May 27, Brighton City Council voted unanimously to establish the city’s first Sustainability Advisory Board. This landmark decision underscores the City of Brighton’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship that improves the quality of life of all residents for generations to come.
The city is now seeking applicants for the Sustainability Advisory Board. This newly formed board will play a vital advisory role, providing strategic recommendations on policies, programs and initiatives that advance focus areas found within the Brighton Sustainability Plan. Focus areas include energy efficiency, water conservation, waste diversion and sustainable mobility.
“Community engagement is at the heart of the sustainability work we do here in the City of Brighton, so the formation of this board is a natural step to advance this commitment,” said Traci McLean, the city’s Sustainability Coordinator. “This board will help ensure our sustainability goals are ambitious but achievable and continue to target the specific needs of the community while building broad participation and support."
The board will consist of residents, local experts and stakeholders representing diverse backgrounds. Individuals with expertise or interest in environmental science, sustainability, business, education, or related fields are strongly encouraged to apply.
Applications are now open and can be submitted online by clicking here. The board’s first meeting is expected to take place later this year.
