Who we are

The Brighton Police Department has 126 members, including 92 sworn officers. We serve nearly 45,000 residents in five patrol districts that span 21 square miles. The City of Brighton is a modern, growing city with a strong sense of unity, pride, and community spirit. Brighton is characterized by planning that balances residential and commercial land use with generous open space, parks, and natural areas. Brighton is located 15 miles northeast of Denver between Highway 85 and Interstate 76, with easy access to Denver International Airport. The Brighton Police Department employs a team approach to staffing, allowing officers and supervisors to work together each day.

Minimum Requirements

A ride-along with a Brighton police officer is recommended for serious applicants. Please fill out the form below if you would like to schedule a ride-along.

Ride-Along Application

    There is a five hour limit for ride-alongs.

    Rules pertaining to ride-along participants:

    1. Participants must wear suitable attire while participating in the program. Suitable attire shall include slacks, jeans or other clean and neat looking pants, collared shirts, blouse or jacket and shoes. Ripped or torn pants, shorts, t-shirts, tank tops, or sandals are not allowed. Other clothing determined by the Field Supervisor as inappropriate will not be permitted.

    2. Due to the physical nature of participation in the program, participants must be able to walk without the assistance of a cane, walker, or other device and not require an oxygen tank to function normally.

    3. Participants will not store firearms in the police building or carry a firearm during participation in the Ride-Along. An exception is made for Law Enforcement officers who may carry concealed during the Ride-Along. Law Enforcement Officers shall notify the Field Supervisor prior to the start of the Ride-Along if they are carrying concealed.

    4. Participants will not become involved in any investigation, interview of suspects or witnesses, handling, collection or processing of evidence, handling of police equipment or operation of a police vehicle.

    5. Participants, including members of the media, are prohibited from entering the private dwelling of any person during the Ride-Along unless the homeowner and the assigned officer has given express permission. Active Law Enforcement Officers do not require this express permission.

    6. Participants are prohibited from audio recording, still and video photography, communicating with the news media, and/or posting live social media updates (Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, etc.) during the Ride-Along without the approval from the Chief of Police. Participants who violate this rule may be disqualified from future participation in the program and be subject to civil litigation.

    7. Participants will follow the directions given to them by their assigned officer at all times.

    Each participant is urged to consult with his/her health care provider before participating in the Ride- Along Program. Each participant assumes all risks of Injury and/or disease if he/she participates in the Ride-Along.

    The applicant agrees that if medical assistance, including first aid, and/or ambulance services are necessary, the Police Department will arrange for the same. The applicant expressly consents and agrees to pay any and all costs incurred in connection therewith.

    The police officer who will be accompanying the applicant will discuss his/her duties and responsibilities insofar as time permits. If, however, an emergency should arise, the participant must immediately and without question comply with any orders or direction given the participant by the police officer.
