The City of Brighton recently launched BOLT (Brighton On-Demand Local Transit), a new app-based, on-demand public transportation program that expands mobility options for residents and visitors.
BOLT provides fast, flexible transportation anywhere within the service zone and is designed to offer an affordable alternative to driving. The service operates Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fares are just $2 per ride, or $1 for students, seniors and veterans.
Using Via’s smart routing technology, BOLT groups riders traveling in the same direction, enabling efficient shared trips in small hybrid vehicles. Riders can book a trip with a few taps on a smartphone — or by phone — in both English and Spanish. Most trips are completed in about 30 minutes.
Accessibility and convenience are central to the program. BOLT offers wheelchair-accessible vehicles, door-to-door service for riders with mobility needs, and bike racks on every vehicle, giving cyclists an easy way to combine biking with on-demand transit.
The city developed BOLT in partnership with Via, and with RTD, whose three-year grant helped bring the program to life.
