The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Brighton and Adams County due to Level 2 – Extreme Fire Weather Conditions. The warning is in effect Wednesday, December 17, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and includes very high winds and an increased risk of rapid fire spread.
Per Brighton Fire Rescue, all open burning is strictly prohibited until further notice, including for individuals who hold an approved burn permit. Burning is not allowed during Level 2 fire restrictions.
Residents are urged to take precautions to protect themselves, their property, and the community, including:
- Secure loose items such as trash cans and gates
- Bring pets indoors
- Reconsider non-essential travel
- Watch for downed power lines
- Prepare for possible power outages
- Charge electronic devices and backup batteries
