The City of Brighton, the Brighton Police Department, and the Brighton Fire Recue District are announcing the decommissioning of the city’s outdoor warning siren system. This comes after a previous announcement in April that the system was nonfunctional and under evaluation by the servicing vendor.
The findings of the service vendor’s assessment were presented to Brighton City Council
during a study session on July 23. The total estimated cost to repair and maintain the current system totaled roughly $131,000 for initial repairs and updates, plus ongoing maintenance costs.
After receiving feedback from City Council, the decision was made to officially retire the system. This is largely due to the age of the siren system and the availability of alternative emergency notification systems that are far more effective.
Brighton residents are strongly encouraged to ensure they have access to emergency notifications through mobile phones, social media, email, and television. To register for CodeRed emergency alerts, download the mobile app or
register your address online.
We understand there are concerns for some residents being unable to receive notifications. If you or someone you know is in need of assistance with registering for CodeRed, or could benefit from a weather radio, please contact our Emergency Management Coordinator at
