[ARCHIVED] ‘Bobcat by Rosetta’ wins 2023 People’s Choice for Sculpture on Loan program

The City of Brighton is pleased to announce "Bobcat by Rosetta" as the winner of the 2023 People's Choice voting for the Sculpture on Loan program at Carmichael Park. Votes were taken online and through ballots at the City BBQ, Brighton Summerfest and Harvest Fest. The sculpture has been purchased by the Brighton Cultural Arts Commission with Scientific & Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) funds and soon will be installed at a local park.

About the artist: Although Rosetta Shockner was drawn to modeling in clay at a very young age, her formal art training was in commercial art, culminating at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, Calif. Her subjects are animals, which represent another of Rosetta’s childhood passionsRosetta’s admiration and respect for the grace, power, and nobility of wild creatures is evident in her sculptures, which capture their spirit, form, and movement in a unique, hard-edged yet fluid style.

About the City of Brighton's Sculpture on Loan Program: The Sculpture on Loan program is part of the Brighton Eye for Art Program, which includes a gallery at City Hall and the Carmichael Park Sculpture on Loan project. Sculpture on Loan offers the opportunity for sculpture artists to exhibit their larger-scale artwork in a high-visibility park setting for the period of one year. After sending out a nationwide call for artists, a selection committee scores the submissions.

Sculptures are for sale to the public and, to date, eight pieces have been purchased and installed throughout the City. The goal of the Sculpture on Loan project at Carmichael Park is to strengthen community identity and enhance a “sense of place” and community pride for people who live and work in the City of Brighton.
