[ARCHIVED] City Council approves $265,434,894 for 2024 budget

Brighton City Council adopted the 2024 budget at the Oct. 17 City Council meeting. The vote approved $265 million across all 15 of the City’s operating, capital and utility funds.

Highlights of the budget include:

  • Continued construction of the City’s new water treatment plant and Municipal Service Center
  • Widening of Bridge Street
  • Sable Boulevard improvements to support the future E-470 interchange
  • Increased investment in recreation amenities
  • Enhanced streets maintenance service levels

The 2024 budget runs from January to December 2024 and addresses key vision areas of the City Council’s strategic plan. This includes more strategic growth of the City’s infrastructure through the expansion of the non-potable water system and a new housing coordinator to support affordable housing partnerships. A $17.5 million transfer to the Parks and Recreation Capital Fund will support efforts to develop a new sports complex that will strengthen Brighton’s position as a destination for recreation and cultural amenities. Financial resiliency is also enhanced through the implementation of a new financial system that will make tracking more efficient and increase transparency and reporting capabilities for residents.  The 2024 budget also considers market expectations over the 10-year horizon with a conservative economic outlook for 2024.

City leaders were able to balance the 2024 budget while maintaining the required reserves across all funds.

The full 2024 Budget Book will be available in January here.
