The City of Brighton’s Michael Woodruff Municipal Service Center was honored as the best Structure in a Medium Community during the 2025 American Public Works Association’s Colorado Chapter Awards on Oct. 21. The 67,668-square-foot facility was designed by D2C Architects, which partnered closely with the city to assess operational needs, identify efficiencies, and develop a master plan for a structure that supports current workflows and future growth.   

The municipal service center broke ground in June 2023 and opened in February 2025. It accommodates staff from several departments, including fleet, parks and open space, public works and utilities, all of which previously operated in separate, aging facilities. The Brighton Police Department also has a substation housed at the center. The facility was named the Michael Woodruff Municipal Service Center in honor of the city’s former director of public works, who passed away in October 2023 following a valiant battle with cancer.
