The Brighton Police Department has identified a suspect in the Oct. 4 hit-and-run auto-pedestrian crash that resulted in serious injuries. Lazaro Maya, 25, turned himself in on Nov. 4. The vehicle involved in the incident has also been recovered and will undergo further processing and investigation.
Maya was arrested for leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury and driving without a license. The case will be presented to the Weld County District Attorney’s Office for filing of formal charges.

Further investigation by our Traffic Safety Unit has indicated that the suspect vehicle is a 2000 Honda Civic, possibly black in color. Anyone who has additional information is asked to call the Brighton Police Department tip line at 303-655-8740.

The Brighton Police Department Traffic Safety Unit (TSU) is investigating a hit-and-run auto-pedestrian crash that resulted in serious injuries. Investigators are seeking help from the public to identify the suspect, who is believed to have been driving a 2000's Honda. The suspect vehicle likely has damage to the front and the driver’s side mirror.
On Oct. 4 at approximately 7:15 p.m., Brighton Police officers were dispatched to the area of North Main Street/County Road 27 and County Road 2 1/2 on reports of a pedestrian being struck by two different vehicles.
Upon arrival, officers found a 22-year-old male in the roadway with severe injuries. The preliminary investigation revealed the male was walking before being struck by the suspect vehicle. The driver fled the scene. A second driver, who did not see the male in the roadway, also struck him. The second driver remained on scene and is cooperating with police.
This investigation remains ongoing and is still in the early stages. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has additional information is asked to please call the Brighton Police Department tip line at 303-655-8740.
