Police have arrested 30-year-old Justena Tomasino for violating a parental custody order and abducting her three biological children. Tomasino was taken into custody in Colorado Springs around 11:20 a.m., and all three children are safe.
Brighton Police Department received a call early this morning from family members who have legal custody of the children, reporting that the children were missing from their Brighton residence.
After conducting the initial investigation, detectives had reason to believe that Tomasino was involved. Tomasino had an active warrant out of Denver for child abuse, so Brighton Police detectives quickly partnered with CBI to issue an AMBER Alert.
With the assistance of Colorado Springs Police Department, the children and suspect were successfully located. Tomasino is being processed and booked into Adams County jail, and this continues to be an active and ongoing investigation.
Brighton Police Department would like to thank all of the agencies who assisted with this case, and the local media and members of the public who helped share this information.
This case will be filed with the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office where the final decision of formal charges will be determined. Under Colorado laws, the arrest and filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual committed a crime. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
