Brighton Police Department is investigating a vehicular homicide that occurred on July 27 around 2:45 a.m. Officers received initial reports that a male was down on the ground for an unknown reason near the 4500 block of Southern Street. Upon arrival, officers learned that a 25-year-old male was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe eastbound near the 4500 block of Southern Street when a 50-year-old male exited the Tahoe and was struck by the vehicle. The 50-year-old was pronounced deceased on scene.
The driver, identified as 25-year-old Ronnie Vigil, was processed and booked into Adams County jail on multiple charges including vehicular homicide and driving under the influence. Under Colorado laws, the arrest and filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual committed a crime. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
The victim’s name is being withheld pending positive identification by the Adams County Coroner’s Office. This investigation remains ongoing and is still in the very early stages, no additional details will be released at this time.
