Brighton Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on May 9 around 6:15 p.m. The initial investigation reveals that a 37-year-old male driving a Hyundai Sonata was crossing Highway 85 from North Kuner Road eastbound towards Denver Street, when he was struck by a 59-year-old male driving a Dodge Ram 2500 northbound on Highway 85.
The driver of the sedan was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. His identity is being withheld pending positive identification by the coroner’s office and notification of next of kin. The driver of the truck was also transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The Brighton Police Department Traffic Safety Unit responded to the scene and shut down the highway for several hours while they began their crash investigation.
Officers have not found any indications of intoxication or excessive speed. Both drivers were not wearing seatbelts. This investigation remains ongoing and is still in the early stages. The Brighton Police Traffic Safety Unit is urging everyone to use caution, pay attention, and wear a seatbelt.
