Brighton Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on December 28 just before 2 p.m. The initial investigation reveals that a 40-year-old male driving a Chevrolet Equinox, with three adult male passengers, was traveling eastbound on I-76 at a high rate of speed. The driver suddenly veered off the right side of the interstate, went airborne, and rolled over the frontage road into an electrical transformer box. One of the passengers, a 26-year-old male of Aurora, was found deceased when officers arrived on scene.

The driver and the other two passengers were transported to the hospital, where a 30-year-old male passenger later died. Their identity is being withheld pending positive identification by the coroner's office and notification of next of kin.

The driver showed no signs of impairment. Officers believe at least two of the occupants were not wearing seatbelts, and that excessive speed is a contributing factor. This investigation remains ongoing and is still in the early stages. The Brighton Police Traffic Safety Unit is urging everyone to use caution, pay attention, drive sober and obey the speed limit.
