Permitting
City Hall closes at noon on Fridays. All Community Development functions (planning and zoning, permitting and inspections, etc.) will also end at noon on Fridays.
Multiple municipalities in Colorado have been affected by a phishing scam that targets building and planning department customers. While the City of Brighton has not been affected by this scam, we want our customers to be aware and protected. If you receive notification that fees are owed unexpectedly, please reach out to your planner or permit technician to verify.
All high-efficiency fuel burning appliances will require a limestone filter on the condensate line as of November 1, 2025.
Applying for a permit or contractor's license
To apply for a permit or contractor's license, create an account through OpenGov.
>Notice: Once a permit has been paid for, the approved City of Brighton stamped plans and permit card must be printed from the portal and available to the inspector.
We will assist with building permits, contractor’s licensing, right-of-way and utility permits, bonding, and general development coordination. Please email questions to 1stop@brightonco.gov.
All credit card transactions will be charged an additional fee of 2.9% of the total amount due.
Permits
Emergency Repairs & Replacements can be done for water heaters, heating systems such as furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, and water supply or sewer service. Permit application must be made by the next business day and the work cannot be concealed. Notify us at 1stop@brightonco.gov of your emergency and apply through the portal.
