Growing Grads: Paid Internships

The City of Brighton offers paid summer internships for youth ages 14-21. Growing Grads Summer Interns work in various city departments alongside an internship supervisor, referred to as a “worksite supervisor." Interns may work up to 150 hours during their 8 weeks and schedules are determined between interns and their site supervisors. On top of participation at their worksite, interns attend weekly professional development classes hosted by Brighton Youth Services. Topics of professional development range from personal finance, individual strengths, conflict resolution, and more.

Internship and professional development growth are measured through nine general competencies such as time management, problem-solving, interpersonal communication, organization, technology usage, and more. Interns and their supervisors work together to create individual work plans for summer interns based on these general skills as well as career-specific skills. These work plans help to illustrate the growth our summer interns are accomplishing during their internship and can translate into their future career plans.

The first step to becoming eligible to apply for our Growing Grads Summer Internships is to attend the annual Growing Grads Summer Job Launch (see above). After attending the Summer Job Launch, young people are encouraged to apply for our summer internships. This is a competitive selection process and applicants must live within Brighton city limits or attend a School District 27J School. Summer internship applications will open on February 25 and close on March 5 at 11:59 p.m.

Please note, if you are interested in applying for a Growing Grads Summer Internship you must attend professional development courses on June 12, June 13, June 27, and August 1.
