1. How many rooms will my event need?

1 room holds up to 60 people banquet-style.
2 rooms up to 120 people banquet-style.

2. Is alcohol allowed for community room events?

Yes - if approved, and for an additional fee.
Beer and wine only, with no glass containers.
Events 60 people and under require one off-duty officer at $40/hr
Events over 60 people require two officers, each at $40/hr
Alcohol service is limited to 4 hours.
Officers need to be present a half hour before alcohol is served, and through the remainder of the event.

3. Is my event non-profit?

If you are part of an organization with 501(c)3 tax exemption status, have proof of that status, and are hosting an event for the organization, yes. If not, your event is considered "profit"

4. Can I have my event after the Recreation Center closes?

Currently we are not offering after-hour rentals. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Fitness and Wellness

1. Do the Fitness Classes cost extra?

No, All Fitness classes that are listed on the Fitness Schedule are included with your daily admission.

2. How old do you have to be to use the weightroom?

Ages 12-15 years old can use the weightroom after participating in the Youth Weightroom Orientation. Youth Weightroom Card and Adult supervision must be present while using the weightroom.

3. Do you have certified Personal Trainers?

Yes, all of our Personal Trainers are certified through nationally accredited associations.Please contact 303.655.2228 for more information.

4. My child is to old for child care can I take them to class with me?

If your child is age 12 years and up they may attend the fitness classes with you. Some classes allow age 8+ with an adult. These are noted on our paper schedule with a ** next to the class. The paper schedules can be picked up at the front desk. Or, you can check our Kid Fit Schedule located on the website. 

5. Do I need to pay extra for the Zumba classes?

No, all Zumba and Aqua Zumba classes are included with entry into the facility.

6. Do you offer child care?

Yes, we have child care for ages 6 months to 7 years of age and available M-F 8:00am to 11:00am and 5:30pm to 8:30pm.

7. I am new do you offer weight room orientations?

Yes, we offer FREE weight room orientations. Please contact the Fitness department at 303-655-2228 to schedule. 

8. Do you offer Fitness Classes?

Yes, we offer over 50 weekly Group Fitness Classes. These classes conclude Indoor Cycling, Water Fitness, Zumba, SilverSneakers & Group Fitness. Please check the website for the updated Fitness Schedule.

9. Do you have SilverSneakers classes?

Yes, we offer all formats of SilverSneakers fitness classes. Please see our Fitness schedule for class days and times.

Funshine

1. When does camp start?

Funshine 2023 starts on Monday, June 5.

2. What time does camp run from?

Regular Hours: 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Extended Hours: 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

3. Can I keep regular hours of 8:30 a.m. but pick up at 5 p.m.?

No. We offer the two options; it is not a flexible time.

4. Can I sign up for just four weeks?

We don't offer any discounts for shorter attendance.

5. Can I sign up for just Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays? Or Tuesdays and Thursdays?

If you prefer, you can sign up for the 8-week program and only have your child attend on the days most convenient for you, but there will not be any price changes.

6. Is there a discount for registering multiple children?

No, there is no discount.

7. Where will camp be?

Funshine 2023 will be held at a local 27j school.

8. Where is drop-off and pick-up at?

We will be housed inside the school. Entrances will be clearly marked and easy to find.

9. What kinds of activities will they be doing?

Swim at least once a week. Arts, crafts, active game, team building, STEM activities. Field trips are on Thursdays (no field trip the first week).

10. Are swim lessons offered?

Swim lessons will not be offered this year.

11. When will field trip information be available?

Field trip information will be available at the Parent Night. Afterwards, it will be posted online, as well.

12. How do we get our camp T-Shirts?

Camp T-Shirts will be handed out on our first field trip day.

13. Do I need to supply sunscreen?

Yes. Supply your own sunscreen, however, our counselors must hold onto it so please label clearly.

14. What if my child needs medication?

Medication must be turned in to our Nurse by Parent Night. Counselors are certified to administer medication.

15. Can I use my child's Immunization Records from last summer?

No. We are required to have a new CDPHE form annually, completed by your physician.

16. Is Funshine a State Licensed program?

Yes, Funshine is a State Licensed program and required by law to abide by all rules and regulations set forth by the state. Therefore, all paperwork must be verified and submitted before your child can participate or attend the camp or camp activities. 

17. Are staff background checked?

Yes, state licensing requires our staff to get cleared through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the FBI and the TRAILS system. In addition, the City of Brighton runs a separate background check before we hire any staff.

18. I have a thirteen-year-old. Is there anything for him/her?

Yes! Returning for a second year, our Counselor in Training program. Visit our CIT page for more information.

General Interest

1. Do I have to bring/own my own gun with me to Hunter Safety Class?

No, a gun will be provided at the shooting range for you. You may also bring your gun with you, ONLY to the range portion of the class with all the safety locks included.

2. How old do I have to be to join the Hunter Safety Class?

There is no required age, although each person registered must be able to read, write and will be required to take a test to pass the class.

3. Do I have to bring my lunch for the Hunter Safety Class?

Saturday's class is an all day class and it will break for lunch. You are encouraged to bring your lunch, although there are several locations near by to go and get lunch. Sunday's class is broken into 2 parts and does not require a lunch.

4. What if my child does not meet the required age for the class?

Please call 303-655-2221 to discuss the possibility of getting your under aged child in a program. The age is determined by the instructor and in some cases there may be exceptions.

5. Do I have to bring my lunch for the CPR/First Aid/AED class?

It is encouraged to bring a lunch for this class. The class will break for lunch and you may leave to go and purchase lunch near by if needed. This class is a 2 year certification.

6. Do I have to bring my own supplies to take a painting class?

Materials are included in all General Interest Classes unless otherwise noted. Bob Ross class does require you to bring a roll of "viva" paper towels and clothes that can get paint on them for the class.

7. Can my parent join me in the Hunter Safety Class?

Yes, we ask that all parents attending the class that are not registered for the class please sit in the chairs provided to the side of the tables to accommodate the other participants who have registered for the class. Unless the parent has paid to take the class, the material is only available to each paid participant.

Private/Semi-Private Swim Lessons

1. How do I sign up for private/semi-private lessons?

Contact the Pool Manager at 303-655-2213. We will get your availability and match that to one of our instructors. You will be contacted by a swim instructor to set up lessons. Please do not pay until you have talked with an instructor.

2. Are private/semi-private lessons worth the difference in price?

Your child will certainly progress much faster in these lessons. As it is one on one, each private lesson can be like getting 4 or 5 group lessons. Semi-private lessons are also beneficial b/c your child is usually in class with only a sibling or a good friend, which makes for a healthy learning environment.

3. Who is responsible for finding participants for a semi-private lesson?

You are responsible for providing the participants.

4. I have started private/semi-private lessons, but I am unable to make it for a scheduled appointment. What should I do?

We understand that things arise that our out of your control. If this comes up, please all 303-655-2212 or 2213 with as much time in advance as possible. We will let the instructor know, and this is not an issue. However, on your second no-show and every no show there after without notice, you will be charged a lesson.

1. How much will I have to pay to get into the Brighton Recreation Center?

It depends. There are different prices for different ages and for residents who provide proof of residency.

The Recreation Center offers many types of admission fees including daily passes, 15 visit punch passes, quarterly passes, and annual passes.

2. How do I cancel out of a class or program and receive credit?

To cancel or receive a credit for a class, call the Recreation Center Front Desk at 303-655-2200 or contact the supervisor for the class or program you are planning on canceling.

Refund Policy for City of Brighton Recreation Center Programs & Activities
Refunds will be made according to the following guidelines:
? No cash refunds.
? If class is canceled by Recreation Center: 100% refund
? Refund requests must be received 5 business days prior to start of the program.
? Refunds of $25 or less will be issued as household credit only. If participant cancels: refund will be assessed a $5 service fee per activity unless refund is issued as a household credit.
? Refund request after the program has started: NO REFUNDS, except due to illness.
? Credit may be given if the participant is unable to participate due to illness. A doctor’s statement must be presented in order to receive credit due to illness.

Recreation Center Pool

1. What programming is offered?

We offer group and private swim lessons, youth and adult recreational swim teams, and aquatic fitness classes including H20 Fitness, Deep Water Fitness, and BOGAFit. We also offer American Red Cross Lifeguard Training classes. We periodically offer contracted classes that are hosted by outside instructors, including Infant Swim Resource (ISR) infant survival classes. ISR is offered on the schedule of the qualified instructor and is not a regular offering.

2. What is the water temperature in the pool?

The lap pool is 84 degrees, leisure pool is 87-88 degrees, and the hot tub is 103 degrees. These temperatures are based on the appropriate temperature ranges for the types of activities conducted as well as health department requirements.

3. How do I know where to place my child in group swim lessons?

Please refer to our swim lesson levels pages and look at prerequisite and exit skills to determine your child’s level. If you do not know what skills your child can and cannot do proficiently, please contact the Assistant Aquatics Coordinator at 303-655-2213 and we will set up a placement test.

4. Can I request a swim lesson instructor?

If you want a specific instructor or a specific gender of instructor, you may participate in our private lesson program. We are not able to accommodate requests for group swim lesson instructors.

5. I am interested in joining a swim team but it has already begun. Can I still sign up?

Yes, if there is space! The Brighton Gators Swim Team fills relatively quickly, so make sure you are paying attention to registration dates to have the best chance of getting a spot on the team.

6. How do private swim lessons work?

7. I would like to be a lifeguard at the Rec Center/Oasis. What do I need to do?

Lifeguard candidates must be at least 15 years of age and certified as an American Red Cross Lifeguard. If you are not certified, your next step is to take an American Red Cross Lifeguard training. We offer lifeguard training in-house!

8. When are the next American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Classes?

9. What is considered proper swim wear?

Only swim and bathing suits are appropriate for swimming. Basketball shorts, t-shirts, denim, sweatpants, and undergarments are not permitted. If you have questions about how to find a swim or bathing suit that fits your specific needs, we are happy to help! Contact us at 303-655-2212.

10. I would like to come and swim laps. Do I need to share a lane?

Yes. If there are enough swimmers, lane splitting and/or circle swimming is required. We do not allow for swimmers to retain their own individual lane while other swimmers wait to swim. Please follow lane sharing etiquette and find a swimmer similar to your level and notify them that you are joining their lane before you begin swimming.

11. May I bring floats to wear and play with?

You may bring Coast Guard approved personal floatation devices (PFDs). A PFD that is Coast Guard approved will have a label inside the jacket indicating approval clearly. PFDs that are not Coast Guard approved (including water wings and most swimsuits with built-in floatation) are not designed to keep the wearer’s head above water and are not permitted - however, you may borrow one of our approved floatation devices! Large floats are not permitted as they create blind spots for lifeguards and may lead to dangerous situations. 

12. May I bring toys to play with?

You may bring dive toys and soft toys. Toys being thrown may not be permitted on busy days if they create dangerous situations, and the lifeguard has the agency to make that decision.

13. I need to cancel my activity registration and get a refund. What do I need to know?

Refund requests can be filed with the Customer Service Representatives at the Front Desk of the Recreation Center. Refund requests must be received at least 5 days before the start of the activity in order to receive a refund. We do not offer cash refunds. If your total payment is less than $25, the refund will be issued as a household credit which can be used for future purchases. If it is more than $25, it can be refunded to the card used to pay for the registration or cut as a check. There will be a $5 processing fee assessed per activity registration. We will be flexible with our refund deadline for illness or injury that unexpectedly prevents participation. This refund policy is in place for all recreation programs and activities.

14. There is no room in the swim lesson level that I need. What do I do?

Get on the waiting list. As possible, we will add spots to lessons. It is not appropriate to enroll your child in a level higher - it can create anxiety and will not benefit your child or the other children in the class. If needed, you may enroll your child a level lower - this will allow them to continue practicing skills, and it is safer for our instructors to push an advanced student further than it is to accommodate a student who is not ready for the skills being taught.

2. How much do programs cost?

We try to keep the cost as friendly as possible for each program. You will find the cost for programs at the rec center very affordable.

3. How can I find out what programs are available for teens and youth?

Our brochure is available at the Recreation Center; we send out a mailer with brief descriptions of what we are offering each quarter and the entire brochure is online. If you need personal assistance you may call the rec center and a customer service representative will be happy to help you.

4. Who do I contact for information on teen programs?

Turkey Trot

1. Are dogs allowed in the race?

No pets allowed

2. Are strollers allowed in the race?

Yes, strollers are allowed. Please consider the safety and courtesy race runners by starting in the back of the pack! Remember that this is a chip-timed race, so your time will not be affected!

3. Where do I park?

4. What time should I show up on Race Day?

7 a.m. on Race Day! Bib Pickup will be in the gym on the back wall. Bibs will be organized by last name.

5. I have registered for the race, when can I pick up my packet?

Packet pickup will be on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 19 and 20, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Brighton Recreation Center. Packets WILL NOT contain your bib. Bibs will be available race day from 7 a.m.-8:29 a.m. Your bib is also your chip!

6. Am I guaranteed my selected shirt size?

No. We do our best to accommodate your selected shirt size, but our shirt order always has some guesswork involved. For the best chance of getting your desired size, please come to early packet pickup!

Youth Department

1. Are the preschool age classes considered school?

Our preschool age programs offer an opportunity for your child to interact with other children of the same age so they can enhance their social skills and communication skills in a fun, structured environment. It also introduces the concept of a more formalized setting with transition periods between activities and group interaction. Games, puzzles, crafts, songs, story time, show and tell and similar activities support age-appropriate learning skills. It is not a licensed program.

2. How old does my child need to be to participate in programs?

Each program has a specific age range the children must be in order to participate. Children must be the stated age by the first day of class in order to register.

3. Will I be contacted to remind me of a class starting after I register?

Due to the volume of participants enrolled in our programs we do not have the means to contact you once you have registered for an activity. Please be sure to include such events in your caldendar. All class information is on the receipt to help you with this, including date, start time and ending time.

4. Why is the Teen information separate from the Youth information?

We offer a wide variety of activities and classes for both age groups and have divided them to make it easier to address. If you cannot find information under one section, please try the other as some programs have overlapping ages.

Youth Sports

1. Are parks and open spaces closed because of COVID-19?

Parks and playgrounds are once again open. Please be sure to follow Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment guidelines while out recreating. 

2. What programs are currently open for registration?

We have currently have adult 4s volleyball scheduled to begin in January and hope to have T-Ball, Youth Soccer, Pee-Wee Soccer, and Adult Softball in the Spring.

3. Will I receive a refund if a program gets canceled by the City of Brighton?

Yes. We will issue household credits for all canceled programs. If you would like a different accommodation or a refund, please email sports@brightonco.gov 

4. Who will contact me about my child's sports program?

A volunteer coach who is assigned to the team will contact you at the contact information you provide. It is important that your phone number and email are up to date in our system. If you have not heard from a coach a week prior to your first game please reach us at 303-655-2200

5. How can I register for Brighton Youth Sports?

You can register in person at the Brighton Recreation Center (555 North 11th Ave, in Brighton) via phone at 303-655-2200 during regular business hours, and online. Online Registration

6. What age(s) can participate in youth sports programs?

7. Who will coach my child's team?

The vast majority of our programs are coached by volunteers. A majority of our coaches are also parents of participants. These volunteers are prepared and trained by the Brighton Youth Sports Department.

8. How can I become a youth sports coach?

You can begin by emailing sports@brightonco.gov, stopping by Brighton Recreation Center, or indicating on your child’s registration that you would like to coach. We are always looking for great coaches! 

9. Are volunteer coaches screened? Do you perform background checks?

Absolutely! All of our volunteers are thoroughly screened for the safety of our participants. As an extra safety measure we also have all of our coaches complete a concussion training. 

10. Can I request a team, coach or teammate for my child?

Yes, we do accept requests and are able to accommodate many of these requests. However, these requests are NOT GUARANTEED.

11. Are any of your programs staffed by paid or professional instructors?

CARA Track & Field, CARA Tennis, Youth Tennis Lessons and Challenger and Skyhawks camps are staffed by paid/professional instructors.
