We moved to Brighton about six years ago from North Dakota and instantly started to enjoy the small town feel right outside of the City of Denver! Over the years I have noticed some things that I feel should be changed in order to better preserve the growth of this community. The town is rapidly becoming less desirable to us with the unpleasant trash and upkeep on some of the properties. Looking inside of the public restroom at the new CarMichel Park was so disgusting, the never ending pile of newspapers from your local paper in house yards where no one picks them up. Who is at fault, the household, or the distributor? The noise level of so many vehicles are ridiculously loud. At what level is the music too loud, the mufflers or the engines? If you can take away the cigarette smoke from the public places to protect my lungs, can you take away the noises to protect my ears too? Who is going to enforce and protect all of these new public areas that our tax money is going into Brighton?

While I understand the economic impact of banning fracking completely, there is no reason why this needs to be done in people's back yards. Fracking should not be allowed in neighborhoods. It lowers property values and makes it 100 times harder to sell your home. There are even mortgage companies that will not give mortgates to homes within 500 feet of fracking. You need to stop these energy companies from mailing out these horrible lease packages that only benefit the energy company, while destroying everything else around it. If you are looking for Brighon to become the next desolate oil zone, then do nothing, but if the city really wants Brighton to actually be a great city, then you need to do something now.

Can Brighton do this? Also, those loud vehicles are so loud, and so much of them. Can we stop this madness? If we can stop the cigarette smoke in public, can we stop those loud, "LOOK AT ME" vehicles that drive our city streets? The noise is so ridiculously loud. All it really says is, "Look at ME", I am so cool....wrong!!!! Get out of my neighborhood is what I am really thinking, you are killing my eardrums here in Brighton. Why can we not control the loudness? The emissions testing should include the loudness of the vehicles too. Control the noise before it deafens us all. I love the stealthy quiet cars and trucks, that's what is really sexy to me....not the loud, "LOOK AT ME VEHICLES", you poor souls...

There are broken links everywhere, if we connect them, people will get out and stay more active, making it a healthier and more community friendly environment.

"Creating a seamless system of hope for Brighton's children, youth and families.
"For Brighton to have the greatest impact on the issues related to children, youth and families, and to be as fiscally responsible as possible, the city must think strategically. From the very beginning of the master planning process the goal was to identify "make it or break it" strategies--those that have the greatest likelihood of positively impacting Brighton's children, youth and families now and into the future. These are the ones that will change how all the other strategies are impacted."
(2007 Youth Master Plan)
#1 Youth Health Centers
#2 Childcare and Pre-school Services
#3 One-Stop Adolescent Support Center
By turning the old senior center into a Community Center the city can establish the infrastructure needed to increase the potential for success of meeting the strategic recommendations. With a clinic and kitchen already in the building and it is walking distance to 8 Schools.

We have wonderful new shops that can boost Brighton's image. With outdoor seating, adding a casual relaxed atmosphere, people will stay longer, shop more and increase revenues. This has been done in other cities and has been very successful. We dont need more liquor stores... we need more culture.

To acquire land across from the police department to construct an outdoor community amplitheater. The theater could be used for summer stock theater, school concerts, movie nights, weddings and concert series. It would be a good source for the arts as well as a revenue source for the city. With the naturally occurring slope in that location it would be ideal for a clam shell style theater and provide pretty vistas of the mountains in the back drop.

Riding a bike through a round-a-bout built for cars is dangerous. This problem could easily be fixed by completing the missing sections of bike path on 160th.

I love Brighton's website, especially the Community Voice section. I believe this should be a high priority resource for city officials to really see what the community is concerned about and how we can make our community a better, cleaner and safer place for us all. I propose really establishing a "spread the word" campaign for letting our fellow community members now about this. I will start by telling all my neighbors and hope that it catches on. This is how we get things done for the community, by the community.

I believe that historic buildings are the cornerstone of any community that seeks to retain its cultural identity. Historic Buildings such as the Brighton Armory, Historic City Hall and our First Town Hall are part of our City's proud past. They add a "sense of place" that many suburban communities have managed to destroy over the past 50 years and are now struggling to recreate from the rubble of their demolished historic buildings. these buildings tell a story that is unique to Brighton and our way of life, both as it was and as it is today. If we have the foresight to save our most important places for future generations, they too will have the opportunity to connect with their past and develop a sense of pride in Brighton.

If anything, it is going up. The way people exercise is changing. People are getting into kettlebells, and CrossFit, and exercise programs that aren't based on using a machine. These types of exercise programs take up more room. Room the Rec Center doesn't have. Even if one didn't take these changes into account, if you go into the weight room or cardio area in the evening, you will see the facility is reaching it's capacity.

We could use the weekends to attract tourism and show the diversification of Brighton. There should be at least 4 weekends either consecutive or 2 at the beginning and end of the summer season. I think that in order to show case the city primary food vendors should be local restaurants. An example of this on a large scale would be the Wisconsin state fair in Milwaukee were they have whole weeks dedicated to various themes.

You couldn't even sit on the bench because the thistles were 4 feet high and coming up through the bench seat. We have a ball field at Dewey Strong that has no backstop, hasn't been drug in two years, and has goatheads all over the field. When a ball rolls across it and you pick it up, it has stickers all over it. When I told Gary Wardle about it, the next week they just sprayed the weeds. There's no water source for the sand volleyball court there. This is Colorado, it's sunny and sand is hot...and needs to be cooled down to play. Oh yeah...where are the league's? Why build the court if you don't hold some kind of league? Our park system is a joke. The soccer fields are the worst in the entire metro area. You can verify this by going to Google earth and looking at aerial shots. We build new parks but don't maintain existing ones.
