The Brighton Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Nov. 19 just after 11 p.m. The initial investigation reveals that a 29-year-old male driving a Dodge sedan was traveling northbound on South 27th Avenue near Kestrel Street at excessive speeds when he crossed the double yellow line in an attempt to pass another vehicle. They crashed head-on with a GM mid-size SUV traveling southbound. When officers arrived they determined that the at fault driver was deceased. Their passenger, another 29-year-old male, was severely injured.
In the victim vehicle was a 38-year-old female and three young children. The female driver was trapped inside the vehicle. Air medical transport was requested, but could not respond due to weather. She was eventually transported by ambulance to an area hospital with serious injuries. The three children were also transported to an area hospital, two with minor injuries and one severely injured. The female driver and two of the children remain in the hospital.
South 27th Avenue was shut down in both directions for several hours while the crash was investigated. Evidence suggests that speed, drugs, and/or alcohol are contributing factors in this crash. This investigation remains ongoing and is still in the very early stages. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has further information and has not spoken with officers is requested to call our Tip Line at 303-655-8740.
The identity of the deceased will be released by the Adams County Coroner’s Office. Brighton Police are grateful for the assistance of Brighton Fire personnel on this difficult scene. We urge everyone to use caution, pay attention, obey the speed limit, and drive sober.
