Brighton Police seek help from public to locate suspect in the assault of an ice cream truck driver

Brighton Police Department is seeking help from the public to locate the male pictured, 20-year-old Luis Antonio Hernandez. Luis is wanted in connection to an assault that occurred on Aug. 31 at Benedict Park, 1735 Skeel St. in Brighton.

At approximately 12 p.m. Brighton police officers were dispatched to the park on a report of a robbery. Upon their arrival, they learned a 77-year-old ice cream truck driver had been robbed and assaulted. The victim reported being struck in the face multiple times by the suspect. The victim sustained several facial lacerations and swelling from being struck, but he was able to provide officers with a suspect and vehicle description.

After a thorough investigation, a warrant for second-degree assault against an at-risk adult has been issued for Luis’ arrest. Luis is described as a 5-foot-5, 135-pound Hispanic male with brown eyes and brown hair. The whereabouts of the suspect are currently unknown, but his last known location was in New Mexico. If you have any information about Luis or his whereabouts, please call the Brighton Police Department tip line at 303-655-8740.

Under Colorado laws, the arrest and filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual committed a crime. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
