In honor of Park and Recreation Month in July, the City of Brighton will be conducting a series of activities for children each of the first four Saturdays in the month from 9 - 11 a.m. at a designated park. 

Brighton Parks and Recreation employees will be on hand each week to show children how to craft a different item with materials found in nature. If a child attends at least three of the four events and collects a puzzle piece each time, they can redeem those pieces for a free pass to Brighton Oasis Family Aquatic Park on Saturday, July 29.

Schedule of events:

• Saturday, July 1 - Make a flower necklace, BJAA Park (1220 Longs Peak Street)

• Saturday, July 8 - Make a tiny leaf boat, Brighton Park (555 N. 11th Avenue)

• Saturday, July 15 - Make a crayon leaf rubbing, Carmichael Park (650 E. Southern Street)

• Saturday, July 22 - Make a pinecone bird feeder, Benedict Park (1855 E. Southern Street)

Since 1985, people in the United States have celebrated Park and Recreation Month in July to promote building strong, vibrant, and resilient communities through the power of parks and recreation and to recognize the more than 160,000 full-time park and recreation professionals — along with hundreds of thousands of part-time and seasonal workers and volunteers — that maintain our country’s local, state and community parks.

This year's Park and Recreation Month theme — “Where Community Grows” — celebrates the vital role park and recreation professionals play in bringing people together, providing essential services, and fostering the growth of our communities.
