Following the recent sale of the Denver Broncos, the City of Brighton has received $454,084.93 as part of the stadium lease agreement that requires the Metropolitan Football Stadium District to distribute a portion of the sale back to the communities that helped to fund the stadium. Taxpayers in the district, which includes Brighton, helped to fund the Broncos’ Mile High Stadium through a sales tax that ended in 2011. In total, more than $41 million is being disbursed proportionally as one-time payments to the cities and counties that paid into the tax.
According to the stadium lease contract, the funds must go towards “youth activity programs.” The City is reviewing project options to determine the best way to utilize the funding.
“Youth in Brighton are a top priority for the city, so this is a welcome source of funding,” said Catrina Asher, Director of Finance. “We’re excited to put the money towards helping young people in our community.”
