Brighton City Council on July 19 voted for the City of Brighton to hold a Special Municipal Election for the Ward 1 vacancy on November 8, 2022 as part of the Adams and Weld Counties Coordinated Election.
On May 20, the former Ward 1 Council Member submitted his resignation and the term began January 2020.
The elected candidate to fill the Ward 1 vacancy will serve the remainder of the term until January 2024.
Ward 1 City Council nomination packets will be available on August 9, 2022 in the City Clerk’s office, located on the fourth floor of City Hall, 500 S. 4th Avenue. Ward 1 Candidates are required to return their petitions with the names of 25 qualified electors from their specific wards by 5 p.m. on August 29, 2022.
Here are some key upcoming dates if you’d like to become a candidate for Ward 1:
- Aug. 9, 2022 – First day that petitions for nominations may be circulated
- Aug. 29, 2022 – Last day to circulate petitions for nominations; petitions must be filed with the City Clerk by 5 p.m.
- September 6, 2022 – Last day to file an affidavit of intent to run as a write-in candidate
- Nov. 8 – Election Day
