Micromobility is coming to the city with the launch of Bird Scooters in Brighton

The City of Brighton and Bird, a leader in environmentally-friendly electric transportation, are teaming up to bring shared e-scooters to the city. The launch of Bird in Brighton will be on Thursday, June 30 at 10 a.m. at Brighton City Hall (500 S. 4th Avenue). The electric Bird scooters are part of the growing micromobility movement aimed at reducing gas-powered car trips, traffic and carbon emissions.

On April 5, City Council passed (7 yes to 1 no, with one absence) a shared electric scooter ordinance to amend Brighton Municipal Code to authorize the operation and licensing of shared electric scooters in the city. The ordinance requires licensing of micromobility devices in the city, establishes rules and regulations governing the operation of shared electric scooters and micromobility devices, sets up safety and maintenance requirements, outlines penalties, fines, suspension or revocation of license and more.

“We are excited to offer a new, eco-friendly form of transportation to the Brighton community,” said Michael Woodruff, Director of Public Works. “It’s another step in our commitment to embracing new modes of transit and innovation in the world of transportation.”

To use the e-scooters, individuals must download the Bird app (available in the Apple Store or Google Play) and sign up. Through the app, you can find nearby Bird scooters and then activate the scooter by scanning its QR code. In total, 200 Bird e-scooters will deploy in the city. Pricing is $1 to unlock the scooter and $0.39/minute thereafter.

Safety rules:

-You must be at least 18 years of age to ride a Bird scooter
