Construction of new water storage tank nearing completion

Work is nearing completion on the construction of a new elevated two million-gallon capacity water storage tank located at Water Tower Park, just off of Bridge Street, east of N. 40th Avenue. The tank will be raised to its permanent height on Sunday, June 12, and is anticipated to be in use by this December, six months ahead of schedule.

The project, which began construction in 2021, allows for water storage to address existing and future development in high zone areas (east of 27th Avenue). This storage ensures that all residences and businesses maintain adequate water pressure on high-use days, especially in the summer and irrigation season. Additionally, the storage tank helps meet the water storage needs for fire protection.

In 2016, the Water Master Plan determined that with current and future projected growth, the new two million-gallon water storage tank should be constructed in order to meet the American Water Works Association requirements. In June 2019, City Council approved a contract for the design of the new elevated tank. Last year, the City Council approved a $5.4 million contract for construction.

Additionally, water quality ponds and ditches were installed to meet stormwater quality  requirements.

This weekend, the City of Brighton logo was applied to the north and south sides of the tank. The raising of the new tank is anticipated to take 10-12 hours.

For questions regarding the project, please contact Utilities Staff Engineer Mark Wallis at 303-655-2285
