Water supply expansion project to begin along Peoria St. between 120th & 112th avenues

WATER SUPPLY EXPANSION PROJECT (1)

Starting the week of March 7, traffic and service impacts will occur along Peoria Street between 120th and 112th avenues due to construction for a new water project that will expand Brighton’s water supply sources.

The City of Brighton will be expanding our water supply sources by purchasing water from Denver Water. The City will be collecting this water via an interconnect constructed between Brighton and South Adams County Water and Sanitation District, which is also connected to Denver Water.

Phase 1 of the project will consist of constructing a pump station on the City of Brighton property located near 119th Avenue and Peoria St. From the pump station, there will be a water main that connects to the city’s existing infrastructure on 120th Ave. This phase is expected to last until June 15.

Phase 2 of the project consists of installing a new water main adjacent to the eastern edge of Peoria that will run south to 112th Ave. Phase 3 of the project will disconnect South Adams from servicing the Fuller Estates at 114th and 112th avenues. The residents and businesses currently receiving water from South Adams will then be receiving water from the City of Brighton. Phases 2 and 3 will occur immediately upon completion of phase 1. The entire project is anticipated to be completed by the end of September 2022. The City will be posting status updates as necessary if construction goes beyond the expected time frame.

Impact - Traffic will be impacted along Peoria St. and 120th Ave. when the water mains are connected. No disruptions to water services are anticipated during the initial pump station construction phases 1 and 2. When the City abandons the connection between Fuller Estates during phase 3, there will be water disruptions for residents receiving water from South Adams. However, the City will provide additional information on the timing of that phase of the project as it approaches. To see the traffic control plan and alternates, see maps here.

For questions about this project, please contact Heath Brooks, Project Manager at Garney Construction, at 720-348-8427 ext. 427 or Lauren Caruso, City of Brighton Utilities Project Engineer, at 303-655-2183.
