Martinez was nominated by Assistant City Manager Karen Borkowski Surine. In the nomination, Surine said, “I have watched him fill various roles in the city during his approximate six years tenure. He is a natural leader, a genuinely kind person and collaborator.”

Martinez was appointed City Manager in October 2021. Prior to his appointment, Martinez served as Assistant City Manager of Economic Development and Communications & Engagement. Additionally, Martinez oversaw the Brighton Urban Renewal Authority on behalf of the city and served as the Executive Director.
