On January 18, City Council recognized Assistant Director of Parks and Open Space Kyle Sylvester and Recreation Center Facilities Coordinator Amanda Aburto for their recent awards by the Colorado Parks & Recreation Association (CPRA). Sylvester won CPRA’s Parks Section Professional of the Year and Aburto won the Colorado Association of Recreational Athletics (CARA) Professional of the Year.

“Kyle’s and Amanda’s success in their respective departments is a fine example of the impact we strive to have in our community,” said Travis Haines, Director of Parks and Open Space.

Sylvester started working for the city in 2007 as the City Forester before becoming Open Space Manager in 2015. In 2021, Sylvester served as the interim Parks and Open Space Manager before being promoted to Assistant Director of Parks and Open Space. In his current role, Sylvester oversees all parks and open space operations, which includes maintenance operations and completing various large capital improvement projects for parks.

Aburto has worked for the City of Brighton since December of 2015, starting as a Sports Coordinator. In her current role as the Facilities Coordinator for the Rec Center and Oasis Family Aquatic Park, she assists in the day-to-day operations of the Rec Center and manages the front desk operations of both facilities.
