Memorial services for Paramedic Battalion Chief Mark Smith planned for November 17


To honor Paramedic Battalion Chief Mark Smith and his commitment to the community, a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 17. Please see order of events below.

9:00 a.m. Emergency vehicles participating in the procession report to Orchard Church (12405 E. 120th Avenue, Brighton) for staging. Media staging will be on the grass field west of the church.

11:00 a.m. Memorial service at Orchard Church. *Open to the public, but no still photography, videography or streaming will be allowed. Services will be live streamed on

1:00 p.m. Procession from Orchard Church to Platte Valley Medical Center (PVMC). Route: East on 120th Ave., north on Sable Blvd., east on 136th Ave., north on Prairie Center Pkwy. to Platte Valley Medical Center. The public is invited to line this procession route. 

2:00 p.m. Closing ceremony at PVMC; *Closed to the public.

About Paramedic Battalion Chief Mark Smith: 

Mark Smith served as a first responder for 30 years. A respected mentor, leader and colleague to many, Smith was a member of the Platte Valley Ambulance Service for 14 years. Prior to Platte Valley, Mark served with REED Ambulance, Rural Metro Ambulance and as a dispatcher for Adams County Communications. Smith passed away on Nov. 7 after battling COVID. Smith is survived by his wife, Susan, and two children, Kayley and CJ.
