On October 3, 2021, at approximately 1:48 p.m., Brighton police officers began an investigation into a shooting near Benedict Park, 1800 Skeel St. in Brighton, Colorado. Officers received information that a 36-year-old woman was dropped off at Platte Valley Medical Center with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to her right knee. The woman was dropped off at the hospital by her boyfriend. He then left the hospital and returned a short time later.
After returning to the hospital, the male, 39-year-old Michael Sandoval, was taken into custody by police without incident. Sandoval was later booked into the Adams County Jail on the charges of 1st Degree Assault, Tampering with Evidence, False Imprisonment, and Domestic Violence. The charges are against Sandoval are merely an accusation. The Adam’s County District Attorney’s Office is currently reviewing the case and has the final decision on the filing of said charges.
