Brighton Youth Commissioners Ashley Settergren and Tessa Davis have been selected for the 2021 Daniels Fund Scholarship Program, a four-year college scholarship of up to $25,000 per year. The goal of the program is to give students the opportunity to earn a bachelor's degree that helps them build a successful life and career. Daniels Scholars demonstrate strength of character, leadership potential and a commitment to serving the community that will position them for success — all qualities and values that were important to the founder of the scholarship, cable television pioneer Bill Daniels.

“The 2021 cohort is impressive and filled with outstanding young people who have promising futures ahead,” said Hanna Skandera, President and CEO of the Daniels Fund, in the announcement on DanielsFund.org. “We’re delighted to have them join the family of Daniels Scholars and look forward to being a part of their journey through college and beyond.”

Settergren, who attends Brighton High School, and Davis, who attends Prairie View High School, are among 240 high school seniors from Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming who have earned a place in the program. Nearly 2,000 students applied for the scholarship. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements, including meeting a minimum grade point average (G.P.A.) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (S.A.T.) scores.

“We are so proud of Ashley and Tessa,” said Tawyna Russell, Brighton Youth Services Manager. “They have worked so hard to earn this scholarship and we can’t wait to see what they will accomplish in college and beyond.”
