[ARCHIVED] Contract awarded for 144th and Sable Traffic Signal Project

sable-and-144thNewsFlash

On Tuesday, Oct. 6, City Council voted to approve a resolution to award a $390,008 contract to W.L. Contractors for the 144th and Sable Traffic Signal Construction Project. This project aims to improve the safety and traffic flow of the intersection. W.L. Contractors was recommended as the lowest and most responsive bidder.

The intersection of East 144th Avenue and Sable Boulevard is currently a four-way stop, part of the design phase ahead of the installation of the traffic signal. In July of 2019, the intersection was modified to enhance signage and advance warnings. Even after the improvements were made, the crash rate did not improve and thus was shifted to an all-way stop.

Construction of the traffic signal is expected to increase the safety of the intersection, reduce the severity and frequency of accidents and improve efficiency and operational use of the busy corridor.

“As the City of Brighton continues to grow, we anticipate many new traffic signals within our transportation system. Sable Blvd. was formerly a state highway owned by the Colorado Department of Transportation, where ownership was transferred to the City of Brighton around 2011. This will complete the second traffic signal along the corridor,” said Christopher Montoya, Public Works Engineering Manager.

The project is expected to begin in the middle of October and anticipated to take about 11 months to complete. Impacted residents will be notified of street closures.
