[ARCHIVED] Volunteers needed for Oct. 16 Tree Planting Project

tree-planting-2020-3-NF

The City of Brighton and its partners from the Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado are gearing up for their second tree planting project of the year on Friday, Oct. 16 and are seeking volunteers from the community to help plant trees. The event is set to take place from 8 a.m. to noon at Elmwood Cemetery located at 14800 Old Brighton Road.

Earlier this year, a wind storm damaged more than 40 large mature trees that instantly changed the scenic landscape at the City’s largest cemetery. This October planting will be an opportunity to help restore the area and leave a legacy for future generations to enjoy. With guidance from the City Forester, volunteers will help to plant 50 new trees to spruce up the area, while also learning the proper techniques to plant a tree to give it the greatest chance for survival.

Out of COVID-19-related health and safety precautions, volunteers will be working in small groups to allow for social distancing based on the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment guidelines at the time of planting. To help keep people safe, please remember to bring your own gardening gloves and face covering.
