On Monday, August 3, at approximately 2 p.m., Brighton Police Officers responded to 61 S. 17th Avenue Drive on a request for assistance from Adams County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO). ACSO deputies were at the residence serving an eviction when they came across what they believed to be a methamphetamine lab. Narcotics Detectives from the North Metro Drug Task Force responded along with Brighton Fire Department. The narcotics detectives began to access the residence and came upon chemicals not generally found in methamphetamine labs. The detectives summoned bomb technicians from ACSO’s Bomb Squad. As a precautionary measure, the residents in the neighboring homes were told to evacuate. The bomb technicians were able to evaluate the chemicals and found them not to be explosives.
Brighton Police Detectives continued their investigation and found drugs inside the home along with illegal weapons. The resident, 46-year-old, Chad Geschwell, was arrested and booked into the Adam’s County Jail on charges of Child Abuse, Possession of Dangerous Weapons (felony), Reckless Endangerment, Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance (felony), and Possession of Controlled Substance-special offender (felony). The charges are merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty.
