City awards $3.99 million contract for South Platte Wells Transmission Line Construction Project

Water line

On July 7, City Council voted to approve a $3,990,688.50 contract to Hudick Excavating Inc. dba HEI Civil for the South Platte Wells Transmission Line Construction Project. The contract comes after a formal bidding process that included 14 companies, with bids ranging from $3.99 to $7.33 million. Hudick Excavating was chosen as the most responsive and responsible bidder at the lowest cost.

This project will help provide long-term, reliable infrastructure for the transfer of the wells’ water to the Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Plant (RO Plant) for treatment. In addition, it will loop in a small section of potable (drinkable) water line to enhance water quality.

The City currently has a 24-inch raw water transmission line that brings water from South Platte wells to the RO Plant. The need for the project comes from the transmission line nearing its useful life of 70 years. The project will tie together two lines on 5th and Telluride streets, which will provide a redundant line for supplying the RO Plant with South Platte Wells raw water to the treated. This line will help to supplement the existing and aging transmission line.

The project is expected to begin in the middle of August 2020. Traffic impacts include lane closures, but no road closures are expected at this point. No service interruptions are anticipated, but if there are, residents will be given 48-hour notice through fliers.
