On June 2, City Council voted to approve a $3,198.495.60 contract for the 2020 Street Preservation Project to A-1 Chipseal Co.
The project targets annual maintenance projects that are part of the City’s strategic plan. The project includes chip seal, slurry seal, and pavement markings. Among the streets to be updated are Bridge Street and South 27th Avenue, south of Bromley Lane.
Transportation projects are necessary to maintain our existing transportation assets and prevent excessive deterioration. During pavement restoration, the roads are striped again and thus allows the opportunity to focus on additional enhancements for equity in modes of transportation. The City evaluates areas and will add bike lanes, signage, as well as some sidewalk repairs. Failure to perform maintenance can result in significantly larger costs, unsafe roadways, and budgetary complications. Reconstruction of a roadway is approximately 10 times more expensive than routine maintenance activities.
The decision comes after a formal bidding process after funding was approved in the 2020 budget. The project is slated to take 180 days and will begin in approximately the next 30 days after July 4, 2020.
