[ARCHIVED] Deadline extended for Brighton grant providing small business rental and mortgage assistance

Small business

This Grant is made possible through funds from the federal CARES Act, which Adams County is distributing to local municipalities to assist businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The City of Brighton and the Brighton Economic Development Corporation have extended the deadline for Brighton businesses to apply for the Brighton Business Rental and Mortgage Assistance Grant to June 11th, 2020. Grants funds are still available. All eligible businesses in Brighton are encouraged to apply.

As part of the eligibility requirements, businesses must have an up-to-date Brighton business license.  As of January 2020, the business license process has been streamlined and is now being handled by the City’s Finance - Sales Tax Department. There are City employees ready to assist you in either Spanish or English to help your business get into compliance and become eligible for this grant. Don’t let concerns about your business license keep you from applying. For questions about your Brighton Business license please visit: https://www.brightonco.gov/247/Sales-Tax-Business-Licensing or reach out via phone 303-655-2041 or email at salestax@brightonco.gov

With funding from Adams County through the federal CARES Act, the City of Brighton, in conjunction with the Brighton Economic Development Corporation (BEDC), has created a grant program to assist businesses with 50 or fewer employees in paying the rent or mortgage for their business. The Grant will pay rent or business mortgage for a two month period not to exceed a total of $10,000 dollars. These grant funds are stackable with other resources obtained by the business applicant.

Applicants will be funded on a first-come, first-served basis.  Businesses must have 50 or fewer employees to be eligible.  Microbusinesses (9 employees or less) will be prioritized for assistance funds. Home-based businesses are not eligible.  Applications must include:

  • A copy of the business’ current lease signed by all parties clearly indicating lease terms or mortgage statement

  • A complete online application

  • Business Form W-9 must be submitted

  • A copy of state-issued identification verifying legal residency in the United States must be submitted (Ex. unrestricted driver’s license, US passport, or tribal document)

  • A narrative clearly demonstrating the need for grant assistance must be provided

  • Business must be current on city sales tax or be on an active payment plan (verified by City Staff)

  • Business must have a current city license issued by the Finance Department (verified by City Staff)

  • Business must be registered and in good standing with the Colorado Secretary of State (verified by City Staff)

The deadline to apply is June 11th by 11:59 P.M. MDT. Additional applications will be accepted after this date, however, they will be wait-listed with priority given to those who submit by the deadline date. All applicants will be emailed a copy of their responses upon submission. To ensure correct processing, applicants are encouraged to review their application and the documents they upload for any errors as they can not amend their application once it has been submitted. If you believe you have made an error in your application and need something corrected please email sderosier@brightonedc.org with the correct documents and an explanation of what needs to be corrected. Additionally, all applicants must give the city authorization to audit and/or verify how these grant funds were used and additional documentation may be required after funds are disbursed.

The application for the Brighton Business Rental and Mortgage Assistance Grant, which is available in both English and Spanish, can be found at www.brightonedc.org.

Applications will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. MDT on June 11th, 2020.  Any additional questions about the application, documentation needed, or eligibility requirements can be directed to info@brightonedc.org
