Every year, the United States Department of Justice offers a grant funding opportunity to local jurisdictions to be used for law enforcement projects. This year, the City of Brighton Police Department is eligible for $10,264 from the Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant Program.
The department has determined the best use of the funding will be to purchase 3 mobile radios to replace current units which do not meet current Federal standards for interagency communications; these obsolete units are not compatible with the national 700/800 mHz LTE system, and thus may hamper inter-agency communications during large scale multi-jurisdictional events.
Because reliable communications between emergency responders is such an integral need as part of day-to-day operations, and its importance is further heightened by large scale or inter-jurisdictional incidents, this equipment plays a vital role in the safety of both the public and emergency responders.
