[ARCHIVED] 2014 Household Chemical Roundup to be held May 3

Brighton residents can get rid of any unused or leftover chemical products in their home on May 3 at the 2014 Chemical Roundup. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Water World, located at 1850 W. 89th Ave. in Federal Heights. Products such as cleaners, paints, thinners and pesticides can be a potential danger to you, your family, and the environment. Household hazardous waste is usually labeled DANGER, WARNING, TOXIC, CAUTION, POISON, FLAMMABLE, CORROSIVE, or REACTIVE and should be discarded in a safe manner.
Residents must bring proof of Brighton residency (utility bill, phone bill, or driver’s license) to discard of items. A $25 donation is requested to offset the high cost of hazardous waste disposal.
Beginning last year, Colorado residents may no longer discard most electronic waste in their household trash. To find out how this new law affects you, how to recycle your electronic devices properly, and how to protect your data, visit www.colorado.gov/cdphe/ewaste. The City of Brighton will be offering recycling of electronics at the Chemical Roundup on May 3. Small fees apply for e-waste recycling.

Items not accepted at the roundup include: business and commercial waste, radioactive waste, explosive waste, smoke detectors, waste containing asbestos, compressed gasses other than propane, tractor tires, and medical waste.

For more information on the roundup, please call 303-846-6249 or visit www.tchd.org/householdchemical.htm.

Those interested in volunteering at the roundup may sign up by calling 720-322-1508.
