Lee Montoya moved to Brighton with his family in 1939 where he went to North Elementary School. He completed his education through Brighton Public Schools and went on to own his business which is still in operation today. le Montoya's focus was on his family and his Hispanic Heritage. The community had prompted him to get involved with several organizations. One of which would be the Brighton City Council, which Montoya entered in 19652 representing Ward 1. Montoya was selected to 11 consecutive terms (22 years) on the council as well as many other different positions in government and was selected as Mayor Pro-Tem for four years. He also served on the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, Board of Adjustments and the House of Neighborly Service. During this time Montoya was a driving force and brought many services to the North side of the community. For his diligent efforts Montoya left a legacy of strength and security.
