On May 1, Brighton City Council unanimously approved a resolution adopting the city’s Strategic Plan for 2018-2019. The Strategic Plan and supplemental business plan will help the city direct its own destiny, even as it encounters a number of pressures in being one of the fastest growing cities in the Denver area. The Plan will also guide the priorities that the city will pursue and will help determine how the city will invest its time and resources. In the near term, it will also assist City Council and city management in the development of the 2019 budget. Throughout the strategic planning process, City Council has made a commitment to keeping the Strategic Plan active and updated in order to meet the needs and demands of the growing community.
“This strategic plan is critical because it sets the direction of what we deem as most important to the city and where we spend taxpayer dollars,” Mayor Ken Kreutzer said.

To help develop the Strategic Plan outlined above, City Council and other city leaders attended a council retreat in March, which was facilitated by Dr. John Nalbandian of the University of Kansas School of Public Affairs and Julia Novak of the Novak Consulting Group.
“It’s a great time to be in Brighton and we’re working hard to make it better every day,” City Manager Philip Rodriguez said. “By developing priorities through a new strategic plan and supporting those priorities with a clear business plan for the city, we’ll be able to ensure we’re building the community we ultimately want. This is an exciting step for us as a city, and we look forward to working closely with residents, businesses, community leaders and staff to deliver on the aspirations of the City Council.”
The city is currently developing a business plan that will accompany and support the Strategic Plan and will align the Council’s policy priorities with both specific and broad initiatives that will be developed and implemented in 2018 and beyond. City Council along with other city leaders will be meeting with the community throughout the year to invite more resident and business participation.
