The City of Brighton is resurfacing Southern Street from 27th Avenue to 4th Avenue and installing bike lanes on both the north and south side. Work began June 22 and will continue for several weeks until completed. The crews are performing roadway repairs, followed by chip seal, and finally pavement markings.
During construction, please expect the following:
- Work hours will be 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- No parking when signs placed
- Construction noise and dust
- Traffic control and possible flaggers
During construction there will be full access to driveways, however, alternate routes are advised to reduce commuting delays and increase safety for the crews. During work, “No Parking” signs will be placed 24 hours in advance to work commencing. Upon completion of the pavement markings for the bike lanes, there will be adjustments to the parking in most areas on the roadway. This work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled to accommodate weather.
In 2016, the City of Brighton adopted the Master Transportation Plan, which includes multi-modal methods to establish the transportation network. The Southern Street corridor, including Jessup Street west of 4th Avenue, was indicated as a major network connection for bicyclists. Dedicated bike lanes improve the safety of riders and allows traffic to flow in unison, and is a step of connecting Brighton for all forms of transportation.
Please be safe and when near a construction zone, please follow these safety guidelines:
- Reduce speeds
- Use caution
- Keep a safe distance from construction equipment and workers
