In November 2011, the City Council of Brighton adopted a city ordinance to provide revenue to be allocated by the City Council for economic development, special events, cultural arts, advertising and / or marketing and promoting tourism and other activities which utilize public accommodations through the levy of an additional tax on overnight lodging stays. The intent and purpose of this lodging tax is to raise funds to promote economic development, tourism, conventions and related activities by marketing the City and sponsoring community events, in support of these purposes.
