Brighton detectives are continuing their investigation into a serious multi-car crash that hospitalized a 25 year-old Northglenn woman Thursday afternoon.
According to witness statements, prior to the 2 p.m. crash, a grey 2004 Ford Mustang had been maneuvering erratically on northbound Highway 85, passing multiple vehicles at high rates of speed and running red lights at three intersections. When the Mustang entered the intersection at 124th Ave., it collided with the driver-side of a white 2004 Subaru Outback which had proceeded westbound on 124th Ave. in compliance with the traffic signal. The crash trapped the female driver inside, and caused her multiple serious injuries. The Mustang then slid backwards into southbound lanes of Hwy 85, striking two vehicles stopped for the red light on the opposite side of the highway. The driver of the Subaru was air-lifted to an area hospital, where she remains in critical condition; the driver of the Mustang was transported by ground ambulance due to injuries.
Although the investigation is still underway, preliminary evidence indicates alcohol and drugs were involved in the crash. The identity of the 40-year-old Fort Lupton man who was driving the Mustang is being withheld pending the filing of charges.
