Brighton, Colorado – The Brighton Housing Authority, through their Career and College Launch program, is excited to offer College Mentor Sessions to local students. Through this new service, a college adviser will be available to work with students (and their parents) to help them understand and navigate through a customizable post-secondary process. Some examples of the available services are career interest and inventory interpretation, learning styles inventory and strategies, personalized scholarship lists, help with college applications, and more.
The Career and College Launch Program was established in 2016 after Executive Director, Joseph A. Espinosa realized that his team had the resources and relationships in place to assist a local high school senior of a Brighton Housing Authority client. The student had a dream of attending college and being the first in his family to graduate, but had no idea where to begin. Joseph enlisted Vic Davolt, former Director of Admissions at Regis University to be the Principal Managing Consultant of CCL and provide guidance to the student. Mr. Davolt worked with the student and his family to evaluate a list of potential schools, assisted with college and financial aid applications, encouraged the scheduling of campus tours, as well as assisted with registering for courses and new student orientation. Since then, the program has evolved and is now offering similar services to students in grades 8-12.
“Through the Career and College Launch Program it is our mission to promote personal growth and economic self-sufficiency. Statistics demonstrate that the difference in earning potential of a college graduate vs a non-high school graduate is approximately 1 million dollars over the course of their career. We have resources and partnerships in place that we are utilizing to provide guidance to students in our community to help them plan for their future, realize goals, become financially independent, and succeed. College and Career Launch falls under our Applicant Assistance Program umbrella, and we look forward to the opportunity to offer the benefits of this program to the community members and their futures.” remarked Joseph A. Espinosa, Executive Director of the Brighton Housing Authority.
