Brighton City Manager Manuel Esquibel announced the appointment of Ryan Johnson to interim executive director of the Brighton Urban Renewal Authority (BURA) at Wednesday’s meeting. Esquibel previously served as the executive director but will be retiring Jan. 31.
“As interim executive director, Johnson will oversee a variety of organizational processes that allow BURA to work in cooperation with City Council, Community Development, Economic Development, Urban Renewal, Housing Authority and downtown partnership to facilitate quality development and redevelopment projects,” Assistant City Manager for Development Marv Falconburg said. His first day as interim will be Feb. 1.
Johnson has served as the assistant director with BURA for the last eight months. His responsibilities include overseeing downtown development, coordinating with Downtown organizations and staff members for cohesive services for downtown, and serving as the BURA and Downtown liaison to developers, community members and various governmental entities.
“Ryan brings more than a decade of urban planning, economic development and redevelopment and revitalization management to this role,” City Manager Manuel Esquibel said. “We appreciate what he has accomplished with BURA to date and look forward to his leadership as we progress into 2017.”
Before coming to Brighton, Johnson served in various capacities with the City of Westminster, City of Commerce City and City of Thornton.
He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Master of Business Administration in Public Administration from the University of Phoenix. He is also a graduate from of Oklahoma Economic Development Institute, an executive development certificate program that has been the primary professional training program for those in the business of economic development.
