Municipal Court

Purpose and Programs

Mission Statement: To provide equal protection, due process, and respect for all individuals at the counter, on the phone, and at the bench.

  • The Municipal Court has jurisdiction over violations of the City of Brighton ordinances for traffic cases and other types of cases, such as code enforcement and animal control, along with other misdemeanor criminal matters. Other, more serious, criminal matters are handled through the Adams County Court.
  • The Municipal Court provides a neutral setting for resolving alleged violations of City ordinances. We provide friendly and efficient court services to all court users while maintaining all ethical and legal requirements.
  • The Teen Court is a program available to youth, grades 9-12, that allows them to have an active role in the criminal justice system and to mentor at-risk youth in the City of Brighton.
